  • Overview

    The Director of Research will provide project leadership and strategic and independent support to the preclinical research team in the R&D department. The candidate is expected to initiate and lead the outsourced preclinical bone-related research studies and will also be responsible for handling the efficient operations of the internal lab. Moreover, the person will act as the liaison with the clinical bone development group and interact with various other departments including medical affairs, lifecycle management, accounting, regulatory and legal.

     

    The responsibilities will include providing scientific input and strategic support to the bone research team through proactive planning and to ensure successful and timely execution of projects; managing and overseeing the operations with external partners/collaborators, expertly handling the process with vendors in collaboration with the procurement office, tracking invoices, initiating and reviewing contracts, and overseeing the research operations budget. This position will have a high level of interaction with Senior Management to ensure that the planned studies are aligned with the scientific strategic plan and are integrated into the project budget and operational plans.

    Responsibilities

    • Accountable for ensuring all research projects are appropriately planned and delivered to program strategy, timelines, and budgets. Scope includes pre-clinical research to facilitate the progression to early clinical development.
    • Manages the operational plan and formulates the project scope, project plan, and critical paths
    • Manages external partner/consultant interactions including contracts and tactical activities
    • Identifies and drives program and resource priorities that align with the business objectives and identifies ways to accelerate the project execution where possible while maintaining high-quality standards.
    • Develops strong logistical skills to manage activities across functions and regions.
    • Establishes, communicates, integrates and executes plans that drive toward goal achievement.
    • Generates collaboration, cooperation, and communication across cross-functional teams to achieve stated goals.
    • Track and monitor program objectives/goals and milestones

    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in life sciences and a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in Biotech. PhD degree or equivalent is preferred. Ideally, the candidate has a science background and experience in operational management.
    • Leadership experience in managing a global, cross-functional team with demonstrated skills in strategic planning and operation problem-solving.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate others, influence without authority and develop meaningful relationships with key stakeholders
    • Ability to drive decision-making within cross-functional teams
    • Ability to work with and support functional team members across R&D ranging from basic/translational research to early clinical development
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Statistical programs such as Graph Prism might be required. Solid knowledge of Sharepoint.

     

    Work Environment:

    The work is performed in a typical office environment with heavy computer duties.
