 The Application Services ManagerResearch & Development is accountable for the support of all technology solutions within the R&D functional IT domain with a keen focus on Development systems (i.e. Clinical Data Management, Pharmacovigilance, eTMF, Regulatory). The Application Services Manager ensures the day to day operational activities are running as expected. This person will also manage all software vendors for this functional IT domain, and they will ensure the services being provided by the outsource provider(s) are consistently meeting OLA’s and SLA’s. Work with Software Partners to understand roadmaps and release management as well as owning the license management for these vendors. They also engage with the business areas within their functional domain to support operational business events and any associated minor application changes.


  • Provides application support for the active R&D IT portfolio to ensure the day to day operational activities are running as expected. Some key validated applications this role will be responsible for are CDM, statistical software solutions, pharmacovigilance tracking and signal detection systems.
  • Manage the Operational Services being provided by 3rd party vendors, including monitoring operational metrics and SLAs, facilitating service reviews with the business/IT stakeholders and coordinating escalations where needed.
  • Manages production issues if/when they occur to ensure service restoration, root cause analysis and the implementation of preventative actions to avoid future occurrences.
  • Acts as a liaison among stakeholders (business partners, IT team, service providers) in delivering the Application Support. Lead communication with internal staff and 3rd party service providers as required to resolve issues.
  • Coordination with Infrastructure Services for implementation services supporting the Active Portfolio and Service Desk escalation includes follow-up and reporting
  • Guide and define Tier1 application support for continuous improvement.
  • Work in coordination with multiple Radius IT Groups: IT Operations, ASM’s for the following areas (Commercial, Enterprise Systems, and Infrastructure Operations), as well as PMO office.
  • Continually looks for opportunities to refine operational procedures to ensure support is provided in a consistent way with as few errors as possible.
  • Ensures on-going Application and Vendor compliance
  • Partner with the business in supporting operational changes to the application portfolio driven by business events, process improvements, bug fixes, or software releases
  • Engages with the IT business partner to ensure IT projects being delivered are done in a supportable manner, that operational procedures are defined/updated prior to the production deployment, and that proper knowledge transition occurs to the application support team
  • Continually monitors software releases (SaaS, Cloud-hosted, and/or COTS installed software) to assess the changes, define the impacts, and plan appropriately for any regression testing (validation impact where applicable), business/user communications, training, and any operational impacts associated with the changes
  • Working closely with the IT business partners, conduct ongoing assessments to confirm that implemented solutions meet business requirements and are effective solutions for ongoing operations.
  • Owns Application License management for R&D Applications
  • Creation/managing the Application support budget
  • Stays abreast of IT services best practices.
  • Adheres to the IT Framework and the SDLC
  • Ensure SOPs, WIs are adhered to in the day to day operations
  • Responsible for managing/prioritizing Change Requests. Organizing and running the Change Advisory Board (CAB)
  • Regression testing of applications as required
  • Escalating issues with external vendors as required and ensure all vendors aligned for success


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, MIS, computer science, engineering or related discipline

 Experience and Qualifications:

  • 8 years’ overall experience in IT with experience working with Validated applications is required
  • 3-4 years’ experience with supporting Clinical Data Management, Pharmacovigilance, Regulatory, Medical Affairs systems
  • 2-3 years’ experience in IT services operations and vendor management
  • 2-3 years’ experience in managing qualified or validated cloud-based, multi-tenant software solutions
  • Experience supporting SAAS applications in the cloud environment in the pharm/biotech area, specifically experience successfully managing the regular release schedules for these applications
  • Experience with Veeva Vault applications is a plus
  • Experience supporting non-validated, research or drug discovery systems is a plus
  • Experience in healthcare or life sciences industry is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Fast-Paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills to interface with users at all levels of management, IT staff, and eternal vendors/partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with internal business partners, IT team and 3rd party service providers.
  • Must be well organized and thorough, seeing both the big picture and details.
